Know How Old Your Body Really Is
Biological Age Testing in Los Gatos
Your birthday tells you your chronological age. It does not tell you how well your body is holding up. Two people born the same year can have very different metabolic health, cardiovascular fitness, and inflammation, and those differences add up to a real gap in how their bodies are aging. Biological age testing measures that gap. At Lifetime Performance Medicine in Los Gatos, we use validated blood-based scoring to estimate biological age and, importantly, we read it inside a full clinical picture rather than treating it as a single flashy number.

Chronological Age Versus Biological Age
Chronological age is simply time. Biological age is an estimate of the physiological condition of your body based on measurable markers. When your biological age reads younger than your chronological age, it suggests your body is aging more slowly than the calendar would predict. When it reads older, it is a signal worth understanding and acting on.
The value of biological age is not the headline number. It is what the number points to. A raised biological age usually reflects specific, measurable things happening in your metabolism, inflammation, or organ function, and those are things a clinician can help you address.
What PhenoAge Is and How It Works
We use PhenoAge, a well-studied blood-based measure of biological age. PhenoAge combines a set of standard clinical markers, including measures of metabolism, inflammation, immune function, and organ health, into a single estimate of biological age. Because it is built from a blood panel, it is grounded in physiology you can actually influence.

Making Sense of Your Biological Age

An Honest View of What It Can and Cannot Do
We want to be straightforward about this. PhenoAge is a validated research-backed estimate, not a crystal ball. It gives a useful, repeatable measure of how your body is doing relative to your age, and it is genuinely helpful for tracking change over time. It does not diagnose disease on its own, and no biological age score should be read as a guarantee about your future. The honest position is that it is a strong, actionable signal that is most useful when a clinician interprets it alongside the rest of your data.

Epigenetic Age at the Executive Level
For members who want the deepest view, we offer epigenetic age testing at the Executive level. Epigenetic clocks estimate biological age from patterns in your DNA and add another layer to the picture. It is an advanced measure, and like PhenoAge it is most valuable when read in context by a physician-led team.

How We Use Biological Age Inside the Lifetime Body Score
A biological age number on its own is easy to misread. That is why we place it inside the Lifetime Body Score, our six-domain framework for understanding how you are aging.
Biological Age is one of the six domains, alongside Metabolic Health, Cardiovascular Performance, Body Composition, Physical Performance, and Recovery and Resilience. Scoring it next to the other five is what makes it useful. If your biological age reads high, the other domains usually show why, whether that is metabolic strain, poor recovery, or an unfavorable body composition. That connection is what turns a number into a plan.
Your results are reviewed by our physician-led team. You will see Dr. Richard Nguyen, DO, at least twice a year, and your ongoing care is guided by Morgan Carmean, ARNP. Dr. Nguyen is a board-certified general and bariatric surgeon with a Vanderbilt fellowship and more than 20 years of experience, which brings a deep understanding of metabolism and the physiology that biological age reflects.
How This Differs From a Consumer Test

Direct-to-consumer aging tests have become common. Many mail you a result with little clinical context and no one to explain what it means or what to do next. The number arrives, and then nothing changes.
Our approach is different in three concrete ways. First, the testing sits inside a comprehensive workup, including a panel of more than 80 biomarkers, so the biological age result is never floating on its own. Second, a physician reads it, connects it to the rest of your data, and tells you plainly what it does and does not mean. Third, it feeds directly into a 12-month plan built for you, so the measurement leads to action rather than sitting in an inbox.
That combination, real testing plus clinical interpretation plus a follow-through plan, is the difference between a curiosity and a useful health tool.

What Moves Your Biological Age
Biological age is not fixed. The same habits that protect long-term health tend to lower it: consistent sleep, regular strength and cardiovascular training, stable blood sugar and a nutrient-dense diet, maintaining muscle, and keeping inflammation in check. Because PhenoAge is built from markers you can influence, it responds to real change over time.
That is the point of measuring it inside a plan. We establish your baseline, target the domains dragging your number up, and retest so you can see whether what you are doing is working. Many members retest their biological age two to four times a year depending on their tier, which turns an abstract idea into a number you can actually move.
Answers To Your Most Asked Questions
We believe in transparency. Here are answers to the most common questions about our approach and programs.
Chronological age is how much time has passed since you were born. Biological age is an estimate of your body's physiological condition based on measurable markers, which can be younger or older than your chronological age.
PhenoAge is a validated, research-backed blood-based measure. It is a strong and repeatable signal, especially for tracking change over time, but it is an estimate and not a diagnosis or a prediction of your future.
Yes. Epigenetic age testing is available at the Executive membership level and adds a DNA-based view alongside PhenoAge.
Membership gives the fullest picture over time, but ask us about a la carte testing if you want a single baseline reading interpreted by our team.
